SLOVENIA FOSTER PARENTING PROJECT AT BUSUA & WEIJA IN GHANA FOR 170 CHILDREN CURRENTLY
EHT-Network has been a partner organization of Humanitas in Ghana since 2005. EHT-Network works with Humanitas on Foster Parenting projects at Busua, Ahanta West in the Western region of Ghana. With the support of some benevolent Slovenians, forty-two children are currently beneficiaries of this kind gesture. Also, EU - Platform / SLOGA that is the Austrian and Slovenian Platform of NGDO's have provided funds to help equip a modern library being built for the community with educational materials and programmes to facilitate the smooth running of the community library center
In 2007, Humanitas and EHT-Network started another foster parenting project at Weija Constituency with support once again from some Slovenia philanthropists to help mitigate the impact of child labour at Weija Stone Quarries and also children used for fishing at the Densu River Basin.
Currently, 123 (one hundred and twenty-three children from Weija Constituency - Accra) and 59 (fifty - five children from Ahanta West in western Region of Ghana namely Busua and Butre) are benefitting from our foster parents project which started very small at Busua.
Our educational support for foster children includes; school uniforms, school bag, canvas or sandals, all books needed for schooling, school fees, extra classes fees, examinations fees, printing and feeding fees for some exceptional needy children. Also part of the funds is set aside for community development.
At Busua currently through the support of the good people of Slovenia and European Union, HUMANITAS/EHT-Network have been able to construct a modern library for Busua Community and the other 3 communites that share boundary with it namely; such as Dixcove, Ahuntumanu, Butre and Busua. Also we have three guest rooms there that we appeared with al guest and volunteers travelling to Busua to Lodge there and pay alittle fees of $7.00 per night for maintenace of the libaray and in promotion of activities for children of the communities.
Upon all the effort by the good people of Slovenia, there are still children in the two regions who really need our help to enable them have a better education. If you want to add your name to those kind givers please visit the website of www.humanitas.si for further information as to how one can become a foster parent.
