Project Title:"Uniting Youth for Nation Building"

This summer adventure program will mainly focusing on areas such as: painting or drawing, drama, dancing (all forms), gymnastic, poetry recitals and workshops on topics such as; HIV/AIDS, Teenage pregnancy, youth Empowerment, Child labour and abuse practices, etc. for boys and girls from selected deprived communities (i.e. developing the hidden talents in children and empowering them to be outspoken, socially responsible and publicly spirited).


Project Details

"Uniting Youth for Nation Building" is a summer voluntary adventure program which aims at unearthing the talents of youth in some deprived communities in Ghana such as Busua Village & Butre at Ahanta West in Western Region of Ghana and empower them to be resourceful. It is also aimed at enhancing talents of volunteers with interest in the social activities. It will be held in Ghana from the 3rd Week of July to the 4th Week of September 2009.


Activities During the program
.
1. 28th - 30th July - orientation and induction.
2. 31st July - visit to all rehearsal centers.
3. 1st - 22nd September - mentorship and rehearsals.
4. 23rd - 28th September - visit to some tourist destination in Ghana.
5. 30th  September - performance and awards night.
6. 31st September - departure of volunteers.


Preparation Made so Far

1. EHT-Network / HUMANITAS (Slovenia) have a guest house at Busua to house about 6 volunteers. Also we have an apartment to house about 6 volunteers in Weija. 
2. Local volunteers from selective educational institutions have agreed to once again support in this project.

3. Heads of Educational Institutins have already approved the project base on the impact we made with EVS - Ghana 2009 and are looking forward to the 2010 project.
4. Two media houses namely: VIBE FM, RADIO GOLD, JUNIOUR GRAPHIC AND GHANIAN TIMES have all agreed to support this project.


What Does it Cost?

The cost for the 8 weeks annual special summer program for nurturing and mentoring young folks in the areas of: drawing and paintings, drama, dancing, gymnastic, poetry for accelerated national development in Ghana, have been set as follows:

2009 (Friday 28th July - Sunday 31st September 2009)
750 Euros - for single room occupancy for 60 days.
650 Euros - for paired room occupancy for 60 days in an international student's hostel.
600 Euros - for three in one occupancy for 60 days in an international student's hostel.


What the fee cover:

1. Registration as a volunteer in Ghana.
2. Correspondence and help with thorough preparation of your trip with EHT - Network representatives in your country.
3. Careful selection of suitable partners to share accommodation and work experience.
4. Food and accommodation throughout your 60 days stay in Ghana.
5. Two (2) meals a day for the eight (8) weeks program (please indicate special dietary needs)
6. Bus pick up from airport.
7. Performance and awards night.
8. Certificates of participation.
9. A documentary copy on the project on DVD.
10. Cost of excursion to 4 most attractive tourist destinations in Ghana during weekends.


Description of Accommodation for "Uniting Youth for Nation Building" Project

1. Single beds for two or three per room.
2. Self bathroom with a water closet.
3. Shared Fridge.
4. Shared TV set.
5. Discussion room.
8. Kitchen.

Do I need  particular qualification?
If you have any qualifications we will appreciation it but formal qualifications are not necessary. All you need is an infectious enthusiasm to teach one of the above mentioned events you pick to teach within three weeks of rehearsals.

Should I take Equipment or Materials for my Group or team?
Few schools have costumes or materials for drama and dancing. Also, schools in Ghana, especially Local Authority schools, luck enough sports equipment hence anything you can bring will be appreciated, but airlines will charge you for extra baggage. You need to exercise some moderation in the things you carry-along.
